As part of the 2015 Biennale de Lyon Veduta, I exhibited a series of three cut outs entitled "Les enfants" at the Fondation Bullukian in Lyon France. These are a continuation of a series that I started in 2009 of cut paper inspired by Mexican Dia de los Muertos papel picado. These banners are an ongoing project, commenting on social and political issues of the day and making a contribution to the historical record of our times.
My work is inspired Mexican artists Rivera, Orozco, Siqueiros, and Posada, as well as contemporary artists Banksy, Sigmar Polke and Shepard Fairey. These three banners are cut from Tyvek and then sprayed with paint to allow them to be displayed in the outdoor garden.
Very inspiring pieces. Moving, poetic, elegant. Well done, Joan!
