Works on paper

Joan Skelton Smith

For years, trees have been the dominant subject of my artwork. As a child in Texas, I would climb into the treetops to look down on the world. Here in the woodlands of England I have found a landscape that recalls these childhood experiences which were so important to me. I have been working predominantly in black. To me black symbolizes the unknown, the unseen, the natural forces of which we are seldom aware but which impact every aspect of our lives.
