I think of this sculptural installation, created for my 2009 degree show at Bucks New University as a lamentation, mourning the destruction of the natural environment by man through war and commerce. The initial inspiration came from trees destroyed during the 1990's Balkans war located in areas still infested with landmines and the famous photo of a torture victim at Abu Ghraib. As I was creating it I was thinking of Picasso's Guernica, works by Goya and Anselm Keifer. In the period since 2009, threat of natural destruction has only intensified; I continue to lament.
